Sanlam Namibia has entered a new strategic partnership with global insurance powerhouse Allianz, a move the company says will unlock new opportunities and deliver better services to its clients. The announcement was made official in Windhoek on Tuesday, 24 June, where Sanlam Namibia CEO Tertius Stears described the collaboration as a “powerful step forward” that positions the company to meet evolving client needs more effectively.

This partnership is part of a broader pan-African joint venture between Sanlam and Allianz, which was originally signed in 2022 and officially launched in September 2023. The agreement, excluding operations in South Africa, created one of the largest non-banking financial services entities on the continent, combining the companies’ operations across 27 African countries. Under the terms of the deal, Sanlam holds a 60 percent stake and Allianz 40 percent, with the possibility of the latter increasing its share to 49 percent in the future. The combined business is valued at over R35 billion and aims to strengthen insurance and financial service offerings across the continent.

Stears noted that for Namibia, the partnership offers a unique opportunity to tap into Allianz’s global expertise while leveraging Sanlam’s deep understanding of local markets. He added that clients will benefit from a more comprehensive product portfolio, improved digital platforms, and enhanced customer experience. The collaboration also aims to expand financial inclusion, particularly by reaching underserved communities with affordable and accessible insurance products.

Industry analysts have hailed the move as a strategic win for both companies. Allianz brings a strong global reputation and technical capacity to the table, while Sanlam provides valuable local insights and established market presence in Namibia. Together, the firms aim to develop innovative solutions in areas such as life and general insurance, investment services, and bancassurance.

With the inclusion of Namibia in this broader venture, Sanlam Namibia is expected to begin rolling out co-branded services and products tailored to local consumers. The initiative is also expected to contribute to economic growth by improving risk coverage and expanding access to financial tools that support households and small businesses.

Sanlam and Allianz have both emphasized that the partnership is built on trust, scale, and a shared commitment to long-term investment in Africa. As implementation gets underway, Namibian clients can expect to see gradual but meaningful changes in how insurance products are delivered, starting with improved service integration and a broader product range.
